In modern society, ancient religions are labeled as mythology: Greek Mythology, Inca Mythology, Aboriginal Mythology, Chinese Mythology, Egyptian Mythology, Native American Mythology. Due to this “branding,” mythology is often seen as false and simply, perhaps, “the untrue stories of ancient people.” However, myths are considerably more than what one assumes are falsehoods; they serve a variety of profound, complex purposes to both ancient and modern cultures. This is why, for my last thesis assignment, I designed a website that analyzes a variety of mythologies, each from a different continent; exempting Antarctica is a necessity, of course. In addition to examining the most prominent deities of each mythology, a variety of facets will be explored, such as a general overview of both each mythology and the societies, tribes, and empires that revolved around it. Furthermore, the recording of mythology has opened a gate for modern individuals to understand and analyze the culture and society of ancient people. The preservation of ancient mythology grows ever more important as they help represent the variety of cultures around the world, both past and present.
